Oratorio SS. Rosario in Santa Cita - Piazza Vigliena - PalermoInaugurated in 1686 by the Compagnia del SS. Rosario in Santa Cita, the Oratory presents itself to the visitor with an exterior as simple as the interior is sumptuous. After entering, a simple staircase leads to the ante-oratory which leads to the oratory hall, where there is the splendid Baroque masterpiece of stuccos the Mysteries and the Virtues, by Giacomo Serpotta. Among the various stuccos, the Battle of Lepanto (7 October 1571) stands out in the center of the counter-façade, a work commissioned to commemorate the victory of the fleet of the Christian League against the Turks, which took place thanks to the protection and intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary. |
